This video is a remix of my literacy narrative essay that I did earlier own in the school year in my college english class. My paper was about me and my family moving from Chicago to the suburbs and how it affected my life. Instead of hearing my side of how I felt about moving, my mother is telling the story from her point of view.

Argument

I believe this was one of my best essays yet. I felt comfortable writing my paper based on the topic I chose. I was able to get a lot of information from the critics that posted their opinion on the website which had me more eager to write my opinion in my paper.

After I submitted the paper, I read over it again and it felt like my opinion wasn't clearly stated but others told me different such as two teachers and my mother who read over my paper. Deep down, I believe that I could have added more examples of my own to get my opinion across.

Literacy Analysis

When I began writing this essay, I was confused on the way the teacher wanted the essay written. This essay took a toll on me and had me stressed because I couldn't find enough example to prove my point.

Also, I think that I could have used more examples from the story to get my point across on how the two characters are similar and how their different. Another thing is that I believe I could have asked for more help and with is essay. While writing this blog, I believe I should have had my teacher add input on my essay knowing that I was confused going into this essay after submitting it. Over all, I believe this essay could have be written differently if I knew what I was suppose to be writing about.

Overall, I believe that I think I did a wonderful job overall writing this paper. I can also say that this was one of the most difficult essays. I say this because I was confused on how to get information from two different people on the same topic but who has different view based on that topic.

I think that I could have had more than my mother to look over my paper because after submitting my paper, I felt as if I didn't put my all into it because I was still a little confused after finishing the essay.

Also, I think that I could have used more example that each of the critics stated because it felt like I was just going on and on with the paper. My grammar throughout the paper was used properly I was told after submitting the essay.

Single Text Analysis

This essay was one of the hardest essays for my to write. This is because I didn't understand the concept of the essay and also I couldn't find a single text in any magazine. When I couldn't find a single text, I began to feel unprepared because while everyone was writing their essay, I just began writing my thesis sentence.

When the essay was done I felt proud of myself because it felt like I had finally accomplished what was in my heart for two weeks but at the same time, it felt as if there was some information that was needed in the paper after writing the essay. I kept thinking to myself that after getting plenty of information from my parent and several magazines, I should have added more example how Little Richard was treated and how he became who his is today. Lastly, I was told that my punctuation was improving.

This essay was very confusing. I really didn't know what I was suppose to do when I was told about this essay.

I feel that since I was confused I didn't put my all into this essay. I feel that my sentence structure wasn't as good as the rest of my essays. Also, I believe that if I could change anything, I would be the was I wrote my essay. I believe that my essay is written as if I was in the 8th grade. Lastly, I can honestly say that I could have used better vocabulary.

Literary Narrative

I believe that my paper turned out really well even though I think should told more in depth examples of how my life was while living in Chicago and when I moved to Joliet. At the time of writing this paper, I thought that by giving too many examples, it would loose the interest of the reader. Now looking back I believe that I should have told how I really felt behind close doors about the moving process.

After writing my paper, my teacher didn't reply to paper with a lot of questions and concerns because of how good my paper was written. Even though this was one of my best essays, I still believe I could have increased my vocabulary.

What should schools allow?

Pam Meo Turner who is a teacher at W. C Handy Head Start in Florence, Alabama. Pam is worried about the congress not acting soon enough about the issues their facing. Pam is worried that if congress don't act early about the situation, then the school would be shut down. W.C Handy Head Start believe that every student is important and they believe in helping students become successful. If the school shuts down for good, Pam worries about the students who's learning how to write there name and worried about students that's learning how to tie their shoe. If the school shuts down then students wont receive the necessary an proper help they need from outside resources.

 

I agree with Pam and the petition she established. I support this petition because I believe that our children is what holds the future. If you don't help them now to become someone in life who will. I believe that by the congress not addressing this issues would bring upon more issues. This is because by shutting the school down will cause problems with the school district and with parents of the student because their not getting the necessary help they should be getting from outside resources such as teacher and counselors.

Feminist

The Nutty Professor

In the movie the Nutty Professor, there is a woman name Carla who Sherman Clump loved dearly and would do anything for.When Carla showed up in the movie, it made Clump to change his physical appearance. He loved her dearly, so he decided to lose weight so that she could date him.

 

 

Ever since she came into his life, he's changed and wanted to better his life and his health.

Now regarding feminism, Carla don’t play a huge role in the movie. When you look over the movie, you realize she's the only woman in the movie and when she do show up, her script isn't very long or intense.

Carla play the girl who is there to hopefully date Clump. Throughout the movie, you only see Carla when she's with Clump for with his family. The outcome of this is that women aren't important in society or in movie.

 

After all, Carla shows no growth in the movie. On the other hand, the growth that is shown in the movie is how Clump changed his physical appearance because of the way her felt for Carla.

 

 

Maturity

In the story "Midway" there were two brother's name Junior and Luis who were basically left in the world alone to provide for one another.

Maturity is the key.

The top right picture explains how their father left his family when the two of them were young. There father didn't give his wife and children a in depth reason on why he was leaving. Since the father left his family, this left his wife to raise their children alone.

In the middle right picture, it elaborates how later, as the two of began to age, their mother kicked them out of her house. By the mother kicking her two son's out of her house left the oldest bother Luis to take care of his little brother Junior and to pay bills.

The outcome of the father leaving his family at early on in life led Luis to mature at a young age because he was left to take care of his little brother who is known for stealing other objects.

The Color Purple

The movie The Color Purple is based a girl name Celie who's under aged that was force to marry a man who she was told to call Mister. Mister and Celie lived in a town where only African-Americans live because of segregation. The two of them began to have children which Celie regrets deep down.



The Butler

In the movie The Butler, their is a man name Ceicle who works in the White House as a butler. Ceicle is deeply in love with his wife and his children. Also, he loves his job because he gets to help the president and work for the president. While working in the White House, Ceicle and his family faces several situations because of where his family live down south because of their race. The two movies can relate in several ways. For example, both relationship are African-American with a family. Also, both couples live in the south. While living in the south, both couples go through situations based on their race and the color of their skin.

The two movies are also different because one of the relationships are abusive. Throughout the movie The Color Purple, Mister is abusive to Celie. For example, if Mister would come home and dinner was not on the table, he would hit Celie. On the other hand, in the movie The Butler, Cicle and his wife love each other dearly. For instance, they would cook, clean, and even watch movie together. Also, in the movie, Ceicle took his wife to he White House for a date.

Relationships Complications

There are three songs that stands out to me that I know several people listen to when their sad and depress because their either going a relationship problem or a break up. The three songs are by three beautiful young ladies who have been through a lot in their life. These three songs were written when they were going through similar situations.



American Idol Finalist Season 4

The American Idol finalist, Fantasia Barrino wrote a song name “Truth Is” in 2004 based on still being in love with your ex-boyfriend. This particular song elaborates on the way Barrino feels deep down about the break up with her boyfriend.
Listening to the song, Barrino states, “Truth Is I never got over you,” this line in the song explains that even though Barrino is no longer in a relationship with her boyfriend, deep down, she’s not over him. This means she still has feeling for him and will love him always and forever. “Truth Is” is a song I listen to when I want to stop being friends or stop talking to a close family member but yet it’s still that inch of love that will never fade leaving my spirit open for them to come back into my life because I’m not completely over the situation.

Beyonce Knowles, one of the top selling cd labels wrote a song in 2009 based on placing herself in the shoes of a man. Throughout the song, Knowles expounds on the way men treat woman in a relationship. For instance, in the song, Knowles mentions, “Cus I know how it hurts, when you lose the one you wanted cause he’s taken you for granted and everything you have got destroyed.” In this line of the song, Knowles is basically saying, you lose the one you love because he has taken everything you have done for him for granted. I listen to this song when I'm going through relationship problems even with family or a close friend because it seems like no matter how much I do for them, either a close friend or my family, they always tend to throw it back in your face as something negative.

Keyshia Cole wrote a song called “I Remember” in 2009 based on finding and reminiscing love. Cole states in her song, “Where were you when I said I loved you and where were you when I cried at night waking up couldn’t sleep without you, thinking of all the time we shared.”
Cole is clearly asking he boyfriend question such as, where was he when she was going through a rough time in life. This specific song I listen to when It feels like everyone in my life has disappeared when I need them the most.

 
 
After understanding what each of these three songs meant, their all about relationships. Also, these three songs illiterates the problems people face in different relationships in life.

Technology Take Over

In the video "Connected, but Alone?" by Sherry Turkel, she discusses the issues technology has brought upon people. In the video Sherry explains how technology has changed people and their everyday lives. For example, Turkel told us that her daughter and herself sleep with their phone every night. Also, Turkel mentions how people tend to lean on social network because it seem like no one is listening to them, which leads to isolation and becoming addicted to social media. The reason why people become addicted to technology is because we believe that's the way to get connected to the world and our friendship.

I strongly agree with what Turkel explained in the video about how technology has taken a toll on people's lives. In the video, Turkelmentions how its now hard to hold a full conversation without someone either looking down at their phone to see if they had a missed call or an unread message. I know for a fact I tend to do that because I feel empty if I don't look at my phone or if I don't touch my phone. Another key point that stood out to me was how families are now cutting into their family time by being on their phone. For example, I know that my family time has changed completely because when my family and I would go out to a restaurant or to the movies, everyone would either be texting, using the social media, or playing games. I can honestly say my life has changed completely since technology has became more popular because I'm addicted to texting and social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram because I hate being bored and being alone. After realizing how much technology has changed my everyday life and others, I don't know what I'll do without technology.

Textual Analysis

In this video "Truth Is", Fantasia Barrino is singing about her old boyfriend who she had dated for years. The two of them have recently broken-up the relationship the had with one another. In the song, she explains how she regrets the break-up with her old boyfriend and how she would do anything to get him and their relationship back on track.

In the video, Fantasia looks young, depressed, and sad about the break- up. As you may have noticed in the video, most of the time Fantasia did a lot of sitting around and staring into space because of the break-up with her old boyfriend. Teens now in the world don't know really how to handle stress, so they just sit around and do nothing with themselves and life. When watching the video, you may have noticed the love Fantasia still have for her old boyfriend and how much she valued their relationship as a whole even though he has moved on.

By the end of the video, the point has been made by showing the emotions that the two of them felt about their relationship. Also it made its point by expressing the love and gilt that the two of them have brought upon themselves. As the video became closer to ending, the two of them realized that truth is they still love each other and still have some growing to do before they get back together.

Why Need Tips?

In the New York Times Newspaper, there is a debate about whether or not to tip waitresses and/or bartenders at restaurants. I have read several articles on this topic, but the one that astonished me the most was Tips Supplements Paltry Paychecks by Tye Batorbek-Wenzel. In the article, Batorbek-Wenzel elaborates on how tipping is helpful to her everyday life. Batorbek-Wenzel expounds on if waitresses was getting paid more and by the hour than yes it would be a good job to have but until then, the left over tips provided paying for doctor visits, paying rent and child care. On the other hand, Batorbek-Wenzel  believes that people who works at McDonalds get paid more than she does on a day to day basis because Batorbek-Wenzel believes that being a waitress isn't an easy task. A weekly check is $30, no health insurance, and working long and hectic hours. At the end of the day, Batorbek-Wenzel believes its either help others by tipping and becoming successful in life or die.



As in the article above, I strongly agree with Batorbek-Wenzel's beliefs about tipping. I believe that waitressing or bartending isn't a good nor a fair job to do. Being a waitress and being a bartender is a lot of work for a person to do such as communicating, making and taking orders, and on your feet around the clock. Being a waitress isn't the best job a person can have but it does help people do the necessary things they need to do in life, such as pay bills and provide a roof over their heads. My aunt is a waitress and she doesn't make a lot of money, but I know from being around her that she chooses wisely on what to buy and not to buy. As a result of the struggle you see the two of them go through, I believe that tipping at a restaurant is very important because if you put your feet in their shoes, you wouldn't like the working life style they have on a day to day basis. From hear on out, before you leave the table of a restaurant, live a tip and remember every penny counts.

Revis's New Life

This is Darrelle Revis who a professional football player who plays for the Buccaneers.

Zach Schonburn mentions in the article from the New York TimesNewspaper that Darrelle Revis played defense for the Jets until he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in April. Ever since Revis began to play for the Buccaneers, the accolades have not stopped. See as Revis no longer play for the Jets, ,that has surprised many players because they now would have to face him on the court. Revis' new coach by the name of Coach Rex Ryan, went into details about how he is such a wonderful person Revis is and how well his talents are on and off the fields. Revis had a knew injury last September which ended his career with his team mates on the Jets.


Many people including Revis' fans know how good of a player he is. The players on his team knew not to throw Revis the ball, not even in practice because they knew he would score on them. In order for Revis to actually make the team and play for the Buccaneers, Coach Rex would have to test Revis abilities since he had a knee injury. The author states that deep down inside, Coach Rex believe that Revis is meant to play for him. As time went on, Revis found out that the team he's now playing for is playing the Jets so, shortly after Revis' recovery he walked in to practice and told Coach Rex that his recovery has gone well and he's able to play and practice from here on out. Even though Revis came to practice and told his coach that he's able to play, Coach Rex told Revis that if he had his own way, he would sit him out one more week.

My Work Experience

In the book Working in the Shadows, you saw the different adventures Gabriel Thompson went through. Gabriel wanted to explore the world and work jobs most Americans wouldn't do. As time went on, Gabriel found himself in multiple food fields picking cabbages and different types of vegetables and meats. By the end of the novel, from Gabriel explanation regarding the work he's doing and has done, his whole perspective has change because this is not the work he expected to do.

I'm currently 17 years old and have never worked a day in my life. I've always felt like an outcast because all of my friends either had a job or have a job. I hate when my friends would always ask me why I don't have a job and why I'm not working. I remember when I would tell my friends that the reason I don't have a job is because my parents don't wont me working. My mother and father wont me to focus more on my academic than worrying about money and a job. Unlike my friends parents, they want their children to get a job by the age of 17 or they would be consequences. As you may have noticed, my parents and my friends parents are totally opposite.







Over this past summer, my family and I went to Burger King to order a 49 cent ice cream cone. When opening the doors to Burger King, a huge hiring sign stood out to me in bright neon colors. While ordering our ice cream, I saw a close friend of the family by the name of Alisha that work at burger King. As Alisha beg to take my order, I began asking her questions about their hiring process. After giving me the steps on how to fill out the application and who to call, I began to fill out the application online.

That very next day, I called Burger King and asked to speak with their manager name Emily. I told Emily that I was told to call you this morning regarding the application I filled out online and to see if it would be possible to set up a time and date for an interview. Before the two of us hung the phone up, Emily told me to come in tomorrow for an open interview. Instantly, I got excited and began to smile.
 
 

That next morning as I was getting dress for the interview I began to say my prayers. When I walked into the interview, Emily instantly began asking me the days I was available to work. I told Emily was going to back in school that following week so all I would be able to work is weekends. When I told Emily the days I would be available to work, she began to smile and she began telling that I'm the once she's been looking for because she's been needing someone to work weekends. When Emily told me that my heart began to race with excitement. After the interview was over, Emily told me she would call me between 8am and 10am.
8am and 10am has passed and I began to worry and question myself on why haven't Emily called yet. I asked my sister Jasmine what should I do and she told me to call Emily and I did just that. I later called Emily around 12 afternoon and asked her has she made a decision yet because she hasn't talked to her boss and that told me should get back with me later on tomorrow. Again, I received no calls from Emily so I called her back and ask her has she talked to her boss and she told me no. Deep down inside I was upset and angry but after that last call I told myself that I was going to leave it in her hands and I would just wait patiently on her call.
